About Us

It started with a simple question that proved surprisingly difficult to answer: how much of African countries’ GDP actually comes from foreign aid? The data exists somewhere, scattered across PDFs, buried in databases, or hidden in academic papers. But finding it, comparing it across countries and time periods, understanding it in context was a challenge.

That frustrating search made something clear: some of the most fundamental data about Africa remains fragmented and inaccessible. Without clear, comprehensive data, we default to oversimplified narratives that fail to capture the diversity and nuance across 54 distinct countries, thousands of ethnic groups, and vastly different economic and social contexts.

Causality brings this scattered data to life through visualization. We gather data from across the continent, transform it into clear visual stories, and make it accessible to the citizens of this beautiful continent.
